Rowe AMI R84-R88 RI-3 RI-4 RI-5 SelectCore CPU Replacement

SelectCore is a modern replacement CPU and processor upgrade for Rowe AMI R84, R85, R86, R87, R88, RI-3, RI-4 and RI-5 jukeboxes.

It replaces the obsolete processor fitted to the Central Control Computer (CCC) while retaining the normal Rowe AMI operating style.

SelectCore can be used to replace a failed original CPU or as an upgrade to a working Central Control Computer, adding improved diagnostics, additional autoplay functions and battery-free operation.

Compatible Rowe AMI jukebox models

SelectCore is designed for:

• Rowe AMI R84
• Rowe AMI R85
• Rowe AMI R86
• Rowe AMI R87
• Rowe AMI R88
• Rowe AMI RI-3
• Rowe AMI RI-4
• Rowe AMI RI-5

It fits directly to the Central Control Computer in place of the original processor.

Replaces the original Mostek and Rockwell processors

Two different processor systems were used in compatible Rowe AMI Central Control Computers.

Depending on the Central Control Computer revision, the original processor may be a:

• Mostek MK3870 / MK3870-20
• Rockwell 6500-series processor

These original devices are now obsolete and can be difficult to replace.

SelectCore provides a modern replacement for the original Rowe AMI processor while maintaining the functions required to operate the jukebox.

The two original processor versions use different pinouts and are not interchangeable, which is why SelectCore is available in two versions.

Which SelectCore version do you need?

Important: Do not use the number or writing on the outside of the plastic Central Control Computer case.

Check the part number printed on the Central Control Computer circuit board itself.

6-08871-01 Central Control Computer

If your circuit board part number ends in 01, choose the red SelectCore.

The 6-08871-01 Central Control Computer was designed for the Rockwell 6500-series processor.

6-08871-04 Central Control Computer

If your circuit board part number ends in 04, choose the blue SelectCore.

The 6-08871-04 Central Control Computer uses the Mostek MK3870 processor system.

What SelectCore replaces

SelectCore takes over the functions of the original Rowe AMI Central Control Computer processor, including:

• Pricing and credit handling
• Selection queue management
• Carousel movement
• Record transfer and play operation
• Popularity memory
• Play and money counters
• Fault monitoring

Normal priced play, free play and service modes are retained.

Additional SelectCore features

As well as replacing the original CPU, SelectCore adds:

• Extended autoplay functions
• A-side autoplay
• Mixed A/B-side autoplay in Test/Free Play mode
• Status reporting on the Central Control Computer display
• Extended fault reporting with scrolling messages
• Battery-free Central Control Computer operation

No Central Control Computer battery required

With SelectCore installed, the Central Control Computer no longer requires its original backup battery.

This removes one of the common risks associated with ageing Central Control Computers: damage to the circuit board caused by a leaking battery.

Installation

SelectCore can be soldered directly to the Central Control Computer in place of the original CPU or fitted into a suitable IC socket.

Sockets are not included.

Because the Rockwell and Mostek versions have different pinouts, make sure you select the correct SelectCore version for your Central Control Computer board.
